System Announcements

  • Title IX Announcement (Tuesday, April 7, 2015)

The Office for Civil Rights (“OCR”) is conducting a proactive compliance review of the University of Alaska system under Title IX of the Patsy T. Mink Education Opportunity Act of 1972. Title IX prohibits sex discrimination in federally funded universities.  OCR visited three UA campuses in October 2014, and is now seeking input from e-learner students or other students who were unable to come to the student focus group sessions.  OCR is having a series of conference calls for currently enrolled students to discuss sexual harassment and sexual violence. Separate calls are set up for male and female students.

Please RSVP directly to OCR staff Amy Klosterman via email at amy.klosterman@ed.gov and provide your full name, gender, course of study, and university e-mail address to register for a session and to receive the call-in information.  If you provide a non-university email address, OCR will need to confirm your current enrollment with the university.  These calls are limited to currently enrolled students, but if others would like to discuss this issue, they can contact one of the OCR staffers listed below.  OCR keeps records of its contacts, and those records are public records, which are subject to public disclosure laws, but any identifying information is redacted or removed before release to the public.
